We are part of a vibrant and diverse group of 6 parishes located on the western side of the South Hams. The South Hams is a beautiful, predominantly rural part of South Devon. Much of the countryside is in AONB-designated areas. Our 6 parishes span 2 estuaries, the Erme and the Yealm but we are geographically close to each other. Our 6 parish Mission Community comprises of 2 benefices namely the Benefice of Holbeton and the combined Benefice of the other 5 parishes.

The Parish of Holbeton
Holbeton is classified as an isolated rural village (i.e. there is very poor public transport serving the village). The village is surrounded by land owned and farmed by the Flete Estate. The population of just under 600 occupies housing within the village plus 3 small hamlets and a number of Flete Estate farms.
The 2021 census showed that 20% of the parish are 18yrs and under, 50% are of working age and 30% are 65yrs and over. 70% of the parish are homeowners and 30% rent housing. There a very few second homes.
Holbeton is an active parish with various clubs and activities on offer. There is a village hall, pub, a shop, and a village primary school with 72 pupils. Although not a church school, the school holds a Shine Group once a week which is run by Ivybridge Youth for Christ and is very popular. The school uses the church for Harvest, Christmas and Easter celebrations as well as taking an active part in the Remembrance Sunday service.
Our beautiful Grade 1 listed All Saints church is used for regular Sunday services both Eucharist, Songs of Praise, and lay-led services. The congregation consists mainly of older people but at Easter, Christmas and Harvest the numbers swell. Last Christmas we had 200 people attend the Christmas Eve Carol Service.
History
There was almost certainly a church on the present site in the early Normal period, but during the 13th century the present church with a short tower, superseded the older one and during the 15th century it was enlarged – the aisles added, the tower raised and the spire built, the total height being as present, nearly 120 feet.
